This is the Survivor Tree. This tree withstood the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people, injured 680 others and destroyed 324 buildings and 86 cars. When I arrived I was the only person at the memorial. It was starting to rain. The park ranger and I chatted about the storms forecasted for Arkansas and my gas station coffee and how I’m driving across the county, yes, alone. I was distracted. I was in awe of the tree. What I really wanted to talk about was how I am always struck by what nature is capable of, the unlimited strength and resilience and beauty. I wanted to talk about a lifetime in which I learnt how to stand tall in the face of adversity and vowed to never stop growing. (at Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum)
