When you’re an artist you’re never not an artist, no matter what you’re doing. There is no such thing as free time or boredom or nothing to do. There are no days off. When you have the insatiable desire to create, it never leaves you alone, not for an hour or an afternoon or a vacation. There is no work-life balance because your life is your work and your work is your life. No one asks you to create, nothing except the crazy muse/god/voice/idea/dream in your heart cares if you make something or you don’t. The world has its demands. There are bills and commitments and everything-that-isn’t-art to deal with. Getting up before the sun does every single day to create isn’t often very pretty, my pajamas and bed-hair and dirty coffee mugs aren’t pictures I’d caption with: My Life is My Art. At the core of it, it’s damn hard work. There is always more to do. There is no The End. When you’re an artist, your burden is your freedom.
